Our Mediation Services

At CCDS, we bring people together across the Alameda County and surrounding areas to resolve disputes and strengthen relationships. Explore the community-based mediation services we offer to help neighbors, renters, landlords, and those facing court-related conflicts.

Neighborhood Conflict resolution & Diplomacy Program

The NCRD Program helps neighbors address disputes, reduce tension, and build stronger lines of communication and cooperation. By creating a safe, neutral space for conversation, the program supports peaceful solutions that preserve relationships and strengthen communities.

Day-of-Court Mediation Program

Going to court can be stressful, expensive, and time-consuming. CCDS provides trained Mediators for the Court’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program in local courthouses. Cases are assigned to mediation directly from the day’s docket, giving participants an opportunity to work toward a fair resolution before appearing in front of the judge.

Our Mediators guide participants through a respectful process that often results in an agreement, helping them avoid the uncertainty and strain of a trial. If the parties are unable to reach an agreement, the case returns to the courtroom and is typically placed at the head of the docket to be heard by the judge the same day.

Day-of-Court Mediation saves both money and time by helping participants reach fair, efficient resolutions without the need for a full trial.

Landlord/Tenant Mediation Program

CCDS offers compassionate, affordable mediation services to landlords and tenants experiencing conflicts over housing. Housing conflicts can escalate quickly, leaving both landlords and tenants feeling frustrated and stuck. CCDS provides a neutral space for both sides to be heard, clarify misunderstandings, and explore fair solutions.

Mediation can address issues such as:
  • Rent disputes
  • Repairs and maintenance concerns
  • Lease terms and conditions
  • Security deposits
  • Communication breakdowns

By working with a Mediator, landlords and tenants often reach agreements that preserve housing, reduce legal costs, and maintain respectful relationships.

Landlord Rental Mediation Services (RMS) Program

Funded by Alameda County, CCDS now offers free landlord/tenant mediation for residents living in the unincorporated areas of Alameda County. Our trained Mediators help resolve housing conflicts such as rent disputes, repairs, lease issues, and communication breakdowns at no cost to participants.

For landlord/tenant cases outside the RMS program, mediation remains available on a sliding scale fee.
